The Arts are thriving on Staten Island

Staten Island Arts held an historic Awards Ceremony in our Annex to honor the recipients of Staten Island Arts 2019 art project and arts in education grants funded by the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) and the Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA). This year they presented the largest dollar amount of total grants ever awarded to Staten Islanders in the history of their organization. And they saw a 156% increase in new grant applicants, which is also an historic number for them.

The Reformed Church's secular partner, the Historic Port Richmond Preservation Association, received a grant to tell Staten Island’s Crazy Untold History with a weekend-long interactive/multi-media event in October to show & tell how the congregants of the Dutch Reformed church, located in Port Richmond, left a largely unacknowledged legacy we all live with every day: from the very existence of our nation to the name of the street the church is found on!
