A Special Easter Saturday

La Familia Repertory Theater Company, headquartered in Manhattan, performed James Weldon Johnson's "The Crucifixion" an Oratorio, free and open to the Community.

The Company has been presenting this piece at various venues in the New York area during Holy Week since the late 1970s. Each performance is completely different, without compromising the story. The only constant is that Jesus is always played by a woman. Their message is that Jesus is beyond gender, that women suffer the fame plight as men.

The work is experimental, intense, up close, visually rich and, above all, very moving.
